Halloween Party 2011

Our Halloween Party was a total success. Every child left the place sweaty and exhausted. Thank you to everyone who came out, helped with set up, clean up & brought food/drinks. We had yummy treats, games and free play, and yes, things got crazy with tp. It was well worth the clean up. Get ready for a photo overload. Enjoy!!!

Sidewalk Chalk Paint

We had great fun at Clark's Creek Park today while the kids all made sidewalk chalk paint! This was a super easy recipe that made for a fantastic activity. The kids mixed it all up with some mommy help, grabbed a paint brush and went to work decorating the sidewalk through the park. We have some talented kids & parents!

Woodland Park Zoo

This week several of us met up at Woodland Park Zoo for a full day of fun in the sunshine... and animals!!! The kids all enjoyed exploring the zoo for animals and play areas. We were fortunate the we enjoyed a reduced admission rate which made this a reasonable activity to enjoy with friends from the club!

Making Moon Sand

Today we met up at the park to enjoy a fun hands on project with the kids... Moon Sand! This was a fun, slightly messy project - a perfect way to enjoy some drizzly summer weather. Moon Sand is pretty simple to make - and now that I know the recipe I am amazed at how much they charge for it. We made our Moon Sand with purple sand... all the more fun to play with!

Moon Sand

6 cups fine sand
3 cups corn starch
1 1/2 cups water
drop of oil

Mix your dry sand and corn starch together first, add water and a drop or so of oil. Mix well. Enjoy the play!!! Store in an air tight container. If it dries out a bit just add a few drops of water and remix (like play dough).

Rainbow Ribbons

Today we embraced the beautiful sunshine and enjoyed a nice play date at Rainier View park in Sumner. All the kiddos had fun creating a rainbow ribbon to enjoy on the playground. After they made them you could see little rainbow ribbons fluttering all about the toy structure, little kids running around in an attempt to make theirs fly and better yet, a good go at the merry go round to get them fluttering about. It was a great time and the kids had fun!

Discovery Village

Today we met up at the new Discovery Village out in Gig Harbor, it was wonderful!!! This is a very fun and clean place for children to explore and play as well as a great place for parents to visit over coffee.

Discovery Village features a fun indoor play area that is huge and perfectly clean, a moon sand play center, a rock patch to explore, art table, market center, pizza parlor to play in and a great train center! So much for kids to do in a safe area that is great for even the littlest of our kiddos. They also feature a coffee bar, basic treats and munchies.

We had a great time today visiting while the kids all played and explored. This would make for yet another great activity to attend again in a couple of months. Completely worth it!

Service Project & Recipe Group

This month our Recipe Group was combined with a wonderful service project as well. The kids & moms worked on creating little paper flower cones that will be filled with flowers and delivered to a local assisted living home near May Day. We had a wonderful turn out, great food, amazing little (and big) artists and a lot of fun!!

Wildwood Park

Today we had a small group meet up at Wildwood Park for a little Easter art work and tons of outdoor play! We lucked out and had sunshine the whole time, clear skies and no rain make for happy kids and moms. The little crafts turned out very cute and the kiddos really enjoyed playing all over. It was a really great time!!!

Sunflower Pots

Even though the weather did not cooperate...

Even though is pretty much down poured...

Even though it was hailing when we left...

We had some fantastic troopers show up, picnic their lunch in the cold and the kids hit the playground!!!

Folks showed up with a smile (and shivers) to enjoy making little starter pots to plant sunflower seeds in. The rain will pay off when these kiddos grow a MAMMOTH sunflower in their back yard this summer!

Valentine's Craft Day

Monday we had a great turn out for a morning of visiting, sweet treats and loads of kids crafting. The kiddos really enjoyed being creative with a fun selection of art goodies geared towards valentines. And, the moms got to enjoy some time visiting -- all making for a wonderful morning.

History Museum & Lego's

Monday we all enjoyed a really nice day at the Washington State History Museum where the kiddos all worked on a fun scavenger hunt and earned a color book about our state. They were able to try out various computer stations, dress up from pioneering days, try out various little games throughout the museum and enjoy a nice time at the model railroad display.

After lunch we also ventured down to the Lego area at Freight House Square. This area was fun for the kiddos as there was an endless supply of Lego's for all ages to build with.... the kids really loved this part! The Lego area is free if you are ever looking for a simple indoor activity to enjoy - this one was great!

We have a great turnout for our "Winter Fun" activity last week. We met up at one of our favorite local parks for hot dogs, cookies, snowman soup (hot cocoa with treats) and other goodies. We had some fake snow to play with and winter themed craft projects. Then we headed to the play area to release some energy and finished the fun time with some duck feeding. It was very cold, but worth every minute of it. A great activity indeed.

Olympia Chidren's Museum

A week or so ago there were a few of us who enjoyed a really nice morning at one of our favorite spots -the Hands On Olympia Children's Museum! This is a GREAT museum with a ton for children of all ages to enjoy, get their hands into, build and explore. So much to do!

Pacific Science Center

Monday a few of us met up at the Pacific Science Center in Seattle to enjoy their free day hosted by Fred Meyers. This is a fantastic center and you cannot beat the price of free!

The kids enjoyed some free play in the children's area, exploring with toys and water. We visited a touch tank, spent quiet a bit of time in the dinosaur exhibit, then ventured over to the bug exhibit and butterfly house (the hit of the day)! It was a very laid back, fun morning.

Remlinger Farms

Friday a bunch of met up at the amazing Remlinger Farms, one of the favorite fall pleasures in the club! Remlinger Farms is great - it is loaded with several fun fall activities including entertainment, hay maze, hay jump, children's carnival rides, a steam train, petting zoo and much, much more.... as well you can enjoy the traditional corn maze and pumpkin patch too! The weather was simply perfect and we all had a great time!

Lattin's Cider Mill

Today we had a fantastic turn out of moms and kiddos as headed down to Lattin's Cider Mill for a fun morning of apple cider, cider doughnuts, friends and a lot of farm animals! The weather was perfect, the outing was wonderful and we all had a really nice time. This was a great farm that was clean, friendly and just over all - very nice!!! The gentleman who showed us around was so good with all of the kids... we couldn't have asked for a better time!

A Little International Flavor

This month our theme for Recipe Group was foods from around the world.... and the ladies delivered. We enjoyed a couple of appetizers, a pasta dish, stuffed homegrown zucchini, southwestern egg rolls and an amazing dessert. A great assortment of foods kept us entertained and full for the morning!

Recipe Group is a monthly meet up where everyone in the club is invited to join in, cook a dish that falls under that month's theme and bring it along, print out some recipes and enjoy a morning of visiting while we sample each others foods. It is a great way to collect some new recipes and talk food with the ladies while the kids all play.

Next month our theme is Fall Harvest & Halloween. Hope you can join us!

Cattle Parade

This morning we headed down to the annual Cattle Parade in downtown Puyallup. This is a great little parade that celebrates the kick off of the Puyallup Fair! The cattle running down the street to start the parade is pure joy for everyone, so exciting & fun! If you could not make it this year... next year is a must for sure!

Point Defiance Zoo

Charlie's Safari

Monday a large group of moms and kids headed down to a popular destination for many in our club... Charlie's Safari! This is a great play area, filled with clean bouncy houses that are ever changing keeping it fresh and exciting each time we visit. There is a really large climbing structure filled with tunnels, tubes, obstacles, tube slides, wavy slides, ladders, balls and more! We always have a really great time here!!!

Recipe Group ~ Jello Theme

Each month we host a Recipe Group activity. This activity is enjoyed by members who enjoy cooking (and eating), are looking to acquire new recipes and spend some time visiting. A theme is chosen each month as a guideline for foods, we all create a dish and bring it to Recipe Group along with copies of the recipe to share. It is a fun, well attended activity each month!

This month the theme was Jello brand products (pudding, jello, cheesecake, etc)... a sweet day indeed! We were fortunate to enjoy several wonderful dessert items such as Butterscotch Lush Pie, Cookies, Coffee Cheesecake, Cream Puffs, Lemon Lush, Berry Pie and more. So many wonderful treats enjoy by so many wonderful friends!

Breakfast at The Hangar Inn

Wednesday morning we met up for our monthly Breakfast Club gathering at the Hangar Inn at the Pierce County Airport. The view was wonderful for the kiddos and adults. As we enjoyed an amazing breakfast (good food) a couple of planes landed and took off, gassed up and moved about. It was really neat entertainment while we visited. Afterwards we headed outside the deck and watch some helicopters land and another do a touch down landing. These were all military choppers. It was a really neat time, a 'must do again' soon!

Northwest Trek

This week we had an amazing turn out for Northwest Trek. I think coordinating this with finishing up the summer reading programs throughout town with the kids earning free passes - combined with moms sharing various Entertainment Book coupons and zoo tickets - really helped to make this an affordable outing for all! We started out with a wonderful tram ride where we were fortunate enough to see all the animals in the free range area - including all four moose! The kids all did a great job on this hour long tram tour. For some this was there very first time and they had a great time!

After lunch we kind of broke up in to smaller groups according to what people wanted to see and enjoyed the park area. The outing to Northwest Trek was wonderful, the kids had fun and the moms all seemed pretty thrilled too! A success for sure!

Pacific Science Center

This week a small group of us met up at the Pacific Science Center for a morning of fun. The kids all really enjoyed their journey through the center as they played, explored and learned along the way!

We all enjoyed a dinosaur exhibit, a children's presentation in the planetarium, bugs galore, many machines full of buttons and gadgets (perfect for any child), out door water fun and more!!! The high light though was the beautiful butterfly garden - amazing for sure!!!

A wonderful time was had by all!

Park Fun

During the summer months you'll often find our club members meeting up at local parks for a fun play date, group activity or playgroup. We are very fortunate that our communities offer so many wonderful parks filled with amazing playgrounds, streams, ponds and trails.

We have such a great network in the club to share on great parks, ideas for outings and upcoming events - it keeps the club interesting and full of new ideas! As well, we are very fortunate that the members within our club plan so many great activities on our monthly calendar, are often free in nature and include so many wonderful friends!!! Maybe we'll soon see you at the next park play day?

Kids Bowling

This week a nice group met up at Daffodil Bowl for bowling with the kiddos. They had a really good time bowling and we all had a nice time visiting. The best part is that the kids all bowled for really cheap through the kidsbowlfree.com program. The shoe rental is three dollars a kid, which make for a really neat day out!!!

A Club Favorite

A favorite park of many members in our club is Wildwood Park in Puyallup. This park is beautiful, full of trees and vegetation that allows one to feel removed from the city that is just outside the gate. If the weather is really warm, this is a wonderful place to enjoy the shade of the trees and the shallow stream allows for safe water play for kids of all ages!

The park also features two great toy structures for children of all ages, a covered picnic table area and benches. A great gathering spot for moms to visit while easily watching the kids at play. Time can get away from you here, because there is nothing more magical than watching kids in the natural environment finding so much to explore and enjoy!!!

Nisqually Delta Nature Walk

This was a well attended event, even though it is a bit out of town -- we were all thrilled to have so many friends join us for this great activity. The Nisqually Delta is located just off of highway I-5 south of Dupont. It is an excellent park that one could spend all day at exploring, walking, finding animals and studying birds.

We did the mile loop boardwalk trail to keep it stroller friendly. Part way through we stopped at a river overlook to have our lunch together. The kids enjoyed the river view and the break in the shade as it was a sunny day!

We saw many birds that day, even through the squeals and pitter patter of the children's feet on the boardwalk. Hard to be quiet as a larger group. A big high light for the kids were all the bird nests located near the beginning nature building. We spotted several nest with little babies peeking back at us. For some of us, we also were fortunate to see a deer and raccoon. This would be a great park to experience again as an activity at different times of the year!

Woodland Park Zoo

We recently enjoyed a great group visit to the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle. The sun was shining and the company was wonderful! All the kiddos had a wonderful time as we explored the zoo, finding great animals and visiting a long the way. Part way through we found a great grassy area in the shade to enjoy a picnic lunch while the kids had fun running about playing.

This is a great zoo as it has all the 'classic' zoo animals children see in the story books - giraffes, hippopotamus, zebras, elephants, lions, tigers and bears. They also have little stations throughout where one can have an up close experience with the animals and touch them. On this day our kids all touched a tarantula... pretty cool!!!
